Microbiology
- Typically polymicrobial, including:
- Staphylococcus aureus, which is by far the most common cause of monomicrobial infections
- Coagulase-negative staphylococci
- Streptococcus species
- ENterococcus species
- Enterobacteriaceae
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa
- Anaerobes, including Bacteroides fragilis
- Anaerobes are more likely to be involved in deeper, more chronic ulcers
