• A family of Gram-negative bacilli
• Non-spore-forming, glucose-fermenting facultative anaerobes

Identification

• Main tests include lactose fermentation, mannitol fermentation, triple sugar iron agar (TSI) for H₂S production and gas, indole test, urease test, and growth on citrate
