Rifampin

  • Inhibits bacterial DNA-dependent RNA polymerase
  • Never given alone due to rapid resistance
  • Adverse effects include drug-drug interactions, rash, hepatitis, influenza-like illness, neutropenia, and thrombocytopenia
  • Avoid in liver failure
