  • Closely related to deer tick virus
  • Named for Pawassan, Ontario, but endemic in Eurasia and North America

  • Single-stranded positive-sense RNA virus in the genus Flavivirus, family Flaviviridae
  • Two genotypes: lineage 1 and lineage 2
