Pathergy test

Background
- A test used in the diagnosis of Behçet disease
Procedure
- Insert small, sterile needle into skin of the forearm
- Circle area of needle insertion
- Assess area at 24 hours
- Assess area at 48 hours
Interpretation
- Positive test is a small red bump or pustule at the site of needle insertion one to two days later
- Suggestive of Behçet disease, though not sensitive nor specific
