- Step 1: Use fine-tipped tweezers to grasp the tick as close to the skin surface as possible.
- Step 2: Pull up with steady, even pressure. Do not twist or jerk the tick.
- Step 3: Clean the affected area with rubbing alcohol or soap and water.
- DO NOT:
- Cover the tick with petroleum jelly, nail polish, soap, or other substances
- Burn the tick
- Squish the tick
- If mouthparts are left behind, leave them alone; they will fall out on their own within a few days and do not contain bacteria
