  • Decreased production
    • Viral infections
    • Malignancies
  • Destruction/Consumptiom
    • Immune-mediated thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP)
      • Hepatitis C, HIV, and H. pylori
    • Thrombotic microangiopathy
      • TTP/HUS, other TMAs
  • Sequestration
    • Splenomegaly

Investigations

  • Rule out secondary causes with HCV, HIV, and H. pylori serology
