Management

  • Unclear
  • Often have concomitant DVT or PE
  • ACCP guidelines suggest supportive care with anticoagulation if
  • Close proximity to deep venous system
  • Involvement above knee
  • Severe symptoms
  • Other risk factors
    • Active cancer
    • Immobility
    • History of VTE
    • Absence of varicose veins
    • Male gender
  • Treat with prophylactic-dose LMWH or fondaparinux for 45 days/6 weeks
