Epidemiology

  • Occurs in 2 per 1000 deliveries in Toronto

Differential Diagnosis

  • Chorioamnionitis (i.e. intra-uterine)
    • Genitourinary infections
    • Hematogenous seeding
    • Iatrogenic
    • Endometritis
    • Pelvic abscess
  • Postpartum
    • C-section surgical site infection
  • Other
    • Any other infection
    • Pyelonephritis

Organisms

  • E. coli
  • Group B Streptococcus
  • Viridans-group streptococci
  • Lots of others
