Hip bursa injection

Indications

  • Greater trochanteric bursitis

Procedure

Preparation

  • 40mg prednisolone in 2mL of 2% lidocaine

Position

  • Patient on side, bend hips and knees at 90 degrees

Landmark

  • Palpate greater trochanter

Clean

  • Clean skin

Injection

  • Aim just below the greater trochanter
  • Insert needle up to hub (generally doesn't go far enough to hit bone) and inject bit by bit in a circle
