Differential Diagnosis

  • Neurofibromatosis
    • Typically smooth-bordered ("coast of California") spots
  • McCune-Albright syndrome
    • Typically irregularly-bordered ("coast of Maine") spots that respect the midline (i.e. are only on one side of the body) and involve trunk more than limbs, especially at the nape of the neck and the op of the buttocks
