Definition

  • Idiopathic inflammatory disorder characterized by pathergy and recurrent oral and genital ulcers

Differential Diagnosis

International Criteria for Behçet's Disease

  • Recurrent oral ulcerations (aphthous or herpetiform) at least 3 times in a year
  • And any two of the following:
    • Recurrent genital lesions
    • Uveitis or retinal vasculitis
    • Skin lesions
      • Erythema nodosum
      • Pseudofolliculitis
      • Papulopustular lesions
      • Acneiform nodules
    • Positive pathergy test
      • 20G needle inserted into skin, area circled with a pen
      • Reassess at 24 and 48 hours for a papule
      • Most common in Mediterranean patients
