Background

  • Biliary obstructive from infection-related strictures of the biliary tract in the context of advanced HIV infection

Etiologies

Risk Factors

  • Much more common with CD4 less than 100

Clinical Manifestations

  • Right upper quadrant pain
  • Elevated cholestatic liver enzymes (ALP of 700-800), often with normal ALT and bilirubin
  • May have fever and jaundice
  • Can result in sclerosing cholangitis and liver failure
