Background

Microbiology

  • Yeast previously known as Candida glabrata (previously in the genus Candida)
  • Colonies are small, white to cream-colours, and shiny, pasty, and smooth
  • On microscopy, they are small and oval, typically in dense groups, and have terminal single budding
  • Pseudohyphae are absent (or rudimentary if present)

Clinical Manifestations

Management

  • In general, the same as for Candida
  • Of note, isolates are often fluconazole-resistant, though they may be dose-dependent susceptible
