Background

• Risk stratified for endocarditis that has been validated in a Swedish cohort1

Criteria

• Heart murmur or preexisting valve disease, including prosthetic valve
• Aetiology
  • Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus bovis, Streptococcus sanguinis: +1
  • Streptococcus anginosus: -1
  • Other streptococci, including Streptococcus mitis and Streptococcus salivarius: 0
• Number of positive blood cultures ≥2
• Duration of symptoms of 7 days or more
• Only 1 species growing in blood cultures
• Community-acquired infection

Interpretation

• Score <3, IE is effectively excluded
• Score ≥3, cannot exclude IE
