  • Non-encapsulated, non-spore-forming, Gram-negative bacillus with yellow pigment
  • Member of the Enterobacteriaceae
  • Cuases disease mostly in plants, and rarely in humans
  • Found on plants, on buckwheat, and in human feces
  • About 20 species, of which human diseases have been described with P. agglomerans, P. brenneri, P. conspicua, P. eucrina, and P. septica
  • Associated with "cotton fever" in people who inject drugs
  • Present in the feces of cotton beetles
