Staphylococcus aureus endocarditis

• Infective endocarditis caused by Staphylococcus aureus

Management

• Native valve
  • Antibiotics:
    • MSSA: cloxacillin or cefazolin (or vancomycin, if allergic)
    • MRSA: vancomycin (or daptomycin, if allergic)
  • Duration: 6 weeks
• Prosthetic valve
  • Antibiotics: as above, with the addition of rifampin for the whole duration and an aminoglycoside for the first 2 weeks
  • Duration: 6 weeks
