Background
- Syndrome of acute pulmonary eosinophilia caused by helminths
Etiology
- Ascaris lumbricoides (giant roundworm)
- Strongyloides stercoralis (threadworm)
- Ancylostoma duodenale (Old World hookworm)
- Necator americanus (New World hookworm)
Clinical Manifestations
- Presents as pneumonia
- Transient lung infiltrates on imaging
- Peripheral eosinophilia
- Self-limited, resolving within a few weeks without long-term complications
