Microbiology

Coryneform Gram-positive bacillus within the genus Corynebacterium
Member of the microflora of the skin, urethra, mucous membranes and genital tract

Clinical Manifestations

Mostly contaminant from skin
Unclear if it can cause urinary tract infections1

Management

Mostly discounted as contaminant
Based on urinary isolates, universally susceptible to vancomycin and reliably susceptible to tetracycline1
- Sometimes susceptible to ciprofloxacin
