Staphylococcus caprae
Background
- A Gram-positive coccus within the genus Staphylococcus
- Grouped into the coagulase-negative staphylococci
- Member of the skin flora that was originally found in goat milk and later from healthy human skin, nails, and nasal mucosa
Clinical Manifestations
- Generally just a colonizer, only rarely causing infections in humans
- Infections include bone and joint infections
