Background
- A finding on peripheral blood film that is characterized by the presence of immature erythroid cells and myeloid precursors (metamyelocytes, myelocytes, promyelocytes, myeloblasts, and blasts) as well as, exclusively in myelofibrotic disorders, teardrop cells in the peripheral blood
Etiologies
- Malignancy (60%)
- Solid organ (40%)
- Hematologic (20%)
- Benign (40%)
- Hemolysis
- Myeloproliferative disease
- Infection
- Hemorrhage (rare)
