Background
- Genus of Gram-negative bacilli
- Indole-negative, catalase-positive
- Includes Ochrobactrum anthropi (most common cause of infection in humans) as well as numerous other species
- Somewhat related to Brucella
Management
- Often harbour a chromosomal class C ESBL, giving resistance to penicillins and cephalosporins
- Empirically should treat with carbapenems, fluoroquinolones, co-trimoxazole, or aminoglycosides
