  • Gram-negative diplococcus that is oxidase positive
  • Colonies have a "hockey puck" quality where they can be easily slid around the plate
  • Have beta lactamases
  • Treatment is with amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, TMP-SMX, or a third-generation cephalosporin
