- Typically halophilic (needs salt to grow)
- Associated with saltwater
Organisms
- V. vulnificus, cause of sepsis and necrotizing skin and soft tissue infections
- V. parahaemolyticus, cause of infectious diarrhea
- V. cholerae, cause of cholera
Management
- Typically treated with third-generation cephalosporins
