• Genus of protozoan parasites that infect the intestines within the family Cryptosporidiidae
• Cryptosporidium hominis is the human subtype
• Cryptosporidium parvum is the bovine subtype, which can also occasionally infect humans
• Other species:
  • C. meleagridis, mainly infects birds but can also infect humans
