• Can cause SSTI and bacteremia secondary to bites or licks

Management

• First-line antibiotics: amoxicillin-clavulanic acid 875/125 mg po BID
• Reliable alternatives that can likely be used empirically1
  • Penicillin VK 500 mg po qid
  • Amoxicillin 500 mg po tid
  • Cefuroxime 500 mg po q12h
  • Levofloxacin 750 mg po daily
  • Moxifloxacin 400 mg po daily
  • Doxycycline 100 mg po bid
  • TMP-SMX DS 1 tab po bid
