- Traditionally divided into kingdoms Animalia, Plantae, Fungi, and Protista
- More recently reorganised into clades Opisthokonta (including animals, fungi), Archaeplastida (including some plants and algae), Amoebozoa (amoebas), Excavata (certain flagellated organisms), and SAR supergroup (Stramenopiles, Alveolata, and Rhizaria)
