Background
- Genus of anaerobic, pencil-shaped, Gram-negative bacillus that are part of the normal oral and intestinal human flora
- Rare opportunistic pathogen
Clinical Manifestations
- May cause bacteremia in patients undergoing chemotherapy or hematopoietic stem cell transplantation who develop febrile neutropenia
Management
- Generally susceptible to penicillin and meropenem and clindamycin
- Occasional resistance to metronidazole
