- Candidal infection of the oropharynx
Epidemiology
- Uncommon in immunocompetent patients
- Risk factors:
- Antibiotic use
- Diabetes mellitus
- Dentures
- Inhaled steroids
Treatment
- Nystatin 400,000-600,000 units swish and swallow four times daily
- Fluconazole 100 mg po daily for 7 to 14 days (can use a 200 mg load initially)
- Other azoles likely effective (for example, itraconazole, posaconazole, voriconazole)
