Microbiology
- Coagulase-negative Gram-positive coccus
- Produces bound, not free, coagulase, so may still be slide-coagulase positive
- Identified microbiologically by decarboxylation of ornithine
- Commensal skin flora, but can cause disease
Clinical Manifestations
- Acts similarly to Staphylococcus aureus in that it can form abscesses anywhere in the body
