Dosing

Acute Heart Failure

  • Preferred in cases of hypertension or mitral regurgitation, but should be avoided in cases of ACS (causes a coronary steal effect)
  • Sodium nitroprusside 0.4 mcg/kg/min IV infusion, up to a maximum of 5 mcg/kg/min
  • Long-term use can cause cyanide poisoning, especially in patients with renal or hepatic dysfunction
