- No longer a term that's used, but is still a useful concept
Diseases
- Oral candidiasis
- 90% of patients without another underlying risk factor (DM, antibiotics, dentures, or inhaled steroids) will develop AIDS in 1 year
- Oral hairy leukoplakia
- White patches on the side of the tongue that cannot be scraped off
- Opportunistic infection caused by EBV
