Weissella spp.

• Non-spore forming, catalase-negative, gram-positive coccobacilli
• Previously a Lactobacillus spp.
• Cause bacteremia, abscesses, prosthetic joint infections, and infective endocarditis
• Found in ?probiotics?, raw milk, feces, fermented cereals, and vegetables
• Alterations of the gut flora from surgery or chemotherapy allow translocation
• Inherent vancomycin resistance
