Tryptase
From IDWiki
- Serum tryptase is a laboratory test used to investigate suspected anaphylaxis
- Acute elevation suggests mast cell degranulation, either IgE-mediated or directly
- Rises within minutes of onset of anaphylaxis, and reverts to normal within 6 to 24 hours
- Height of increase often correlates to severity of anaphylaxis
- NICE anaphylaxis guidelines in the UK recommend taking a sample as soon as possible, with a second sample within 1 to 2 hours of onset of symptoms (no later than 4 hours)
