Tinidazole

Background
- Antiparasitic and antibiotic
- Active against protozoa and obligate anaerobic bacteria
- Known as Fasigyn (Pfizer), with 500 mg and 1000 mg tablets
Dosing
- Giardiasis: 2 g p.o. once
- Only available in Canada through the Special Access Program
Safety
- Similar to metronidazole, it can cause a disulfiram-like reaction when taken with alcohol
- Can cause anorexia, headache, vertigo, nausea/vomiting/diarrhea, abdominal pain, pruritus
