Background

• Species of Gram-positive coccus within the genus Streptococcus
• Commensal member of skin, oral, and intestinal flora

Clinical Manifestations

• Apical periodontitis
• Infective endocarditis (about 40-50% of patients with bacteremia will have endocarditis)
• Also: empyema, vertebral osteomyelitis/discitis, liver abscess
