Background
- Septic thrombophlebitis of the pelvic veins
- Typically occurs a few days to a week after delivery
- Rarely occurs in non-pregnant people, associated with pelvic infections (such as pelvic inflammatory disease), surgery (such as hysterectomy), uterine fibroids, hormonal stimulation with gonadotropins, or malignancy
Clinical Manifestations
- Postpartum or postoperative fever lasting more than 3-4 days despite appropriate antibiotics, with negative investigations for pelvic abscess
