• Species of trematode in the genus Schistosoma

Epidemiology

• Intermediate hosts are snails in the genus Bulinus
• Found in Africa (mostly sub-Sarahan), along the Nile valley in Egypt and Sudan, the Maghreb, the Arabian peninsula

Clinical Manifestations

• May be asymptomatic
• Katayama fever less common than Schistosoma manonia and Schistosoma japonicum
• Classically affects bladder
