Background
- Single-stranded, positive-sense, non-enveloped RNA virus in the Reoviridae family
Epidemiology
- More common in children aged 6 months to 2 years; occassionally the elderly
- More common in winter in temperate climates, but occurs year-round in tropical climates
Clinical Manifestations
- Causes viral gastroenteritis, with less vomiting than norovirus
- Symptoms last 3 to 8 days
Management
- Supportive care and rehydration
