• Gram-positive anaerobic bacillus, spore-forming, within the phylum Firmicutes and family Lachnospiraceae
• Originally found in pig and turtle feces, but also human GI tract
• Generally susceptible to piperacillin-tazobactam, ertapenem, and metronidazole
• Generally resistant to penicillin
