Background

  • Gram-negative, encapsulated, oxidase-negative, catalase-positive, aerobic, non-motile bacillus within the genus Raoultella
    • Previously known as Klebsiella ornithinolytica
  • Environmental organism in water and soil

Clinical Manifestations

  • Most commonly causes GI and hepatobiliary infections
  • Case reports of urinary tract infection
  • Very few case reports of bone and joint infections, soft tissue infection, pneumonia, empyema, pericarditis, and mediastinitis
