I	Acute bacterial prostatitis	Symptoms of UTI with bacteriuria
II	Chronic bacterial prostatitis	Recurrent episodes of UTI with same organism
III	Chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome	90% of cases; symptoms primarily of pain with the exclusion of other causes
IIIA	Inflammatory	Leukocytes present in prostatic secretions or semen
IIIB	Non-inflammatory	Leukocytes not present
IV	Asymptomatic inflammatory prostatitis	Asymptomatic and discovered incidentally on biopsy or other investigation
