Parkinson syndrome

Definition

• Syndrome of rigidity (typically cogwheel), tremor (typically resting), bradykinesia or akinesia, and postural instability

Differential Diagnosis

• Primary neurological disorder
  • Parkinson disease
  • Multiple system atrophy (MSA)
  • Dementia with Lewy bodies
  • Progressive supranuclear palsy
• Medication-induced (anti-dopamine)
  • Antipsychotics, especially chlorpromazine and haloperidol
  • Domperidone/metoclopramide
  • Chronic manganese toxicity
