Paraphasia

  • Neurological disorder related to aphasia
  • Types include:
    • Phonemic: syllables or words are mixed up or replaced with similar sounds (dat instead of hat, tephelone instead of telephone)
    • Semantic: words are substituted for words with related meaning or, when severe, for words that are completely unrelated
    • Neologistic: words are replaced with invented words that do not sound like the word they are intending to replace
