Multicentric Castleman disease

Background
- Rare lymphoproliferative disorder
- Mostly associated with HHV-8, but not necessarily specific to HIV
- However, some cases are idiopathic
Clinical Manifestations
- Fevers and chills
- Generalized lymphadenopathy (universal)
- Hepatomegaly and/or splenomegaly
- Edema, pleural effusions, anasarca
- May have thrombocytopenia, anemia, kidney disease, polyclonal hypergammaglobulinemia, hypoalbuminemia
- Can progress to large B cell lymphoma
Diagnosis
- Made on lymph node biopsy, with exclusion of other potential causes
