Left renal vein entrapment

- Also known as nutcracker phenomenon or syndrome
- The left renal vein gets intrinsically compressed
- May be asymptomatic
- Symptoms main include hematuria (most common), pain (abdominal or flank pain that occasionally radiates to thigh and buttock), gonadal vein syndrome, varicocele, orthostatic proteinuria
- Symptoms may be worsened by physical activity
