- Starches: BAD, increase mortality
- Gelatin and dextran: not available in Canada, and poor data
- Albumin:
- No difference when compared head-to-head as initial resuscitation fluid compared to crystalloid
- Very expensive, and is a blood product
- Products also contain sodium 110-140 mmol/L
