  • May be acute or chronic

Microbiology

  • Most common cause of acute infectious thyroiditis is gram-positive cocci (Staphylococcus and Streptotoccus), but can involve others

Clinical Manifestations

  • Acute: sudden onset neck pain and tenderness, usually unilater, with fevers and chills
  • Chronic: more likely bilateral, with less pain and tenderness
