Background
- Also known as "frozen shoulder"
- Inflammatory condition in the glenohumeral joint that results in stiffness, pain, and loss of passive range of motion
Clinical Manifestations
- Gradual onset shoulder pain over weeks to months, followed by decreasing range of motion (active and passive)
- Specifically, decreased passive ROM with forward flexion, abduction, external rotation, and internal rotation
- May lose natural arm swing during walking
- Tenderness around shoulder joint
Differential Diagnosis
- Cervical radiculopathy
- Acromioclavicular joint arthrosis
- Bicep tendinopathy
- Glenohumeral osteoarthritis
- Fracture
- Calcifying tendinitis/synovitis
- Malignancy
- Rotator cuff impingement
- Polymyalgia rheumatica
- Shoulder impingement syndrome
