Egophony

- Physical examination assessment during lung auscultation
- Patient speaks a long E ("ee") sound during auscultation, which is heard through the stethoscope as a nasally long A ("ay" )
- Sometimes described as sounding like the bleating of a goat
- When present, it suggests consolidation or pleural effusion
